NOT MEDICAL ADVICE
SoDNAscan does not provide medical advice, medical diagnosis, or medical treatment. The Service is intended for general wellness and informational purposes only.
The information provided by SoDNAscan, including your personalized Health Book, analytical reports, and all AI-generated content, should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition.
Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of information you received from SoDNAscan.
1. General Wellness Purpose
SoDNAscan is designed and intended as a general wellness product. The Service:
- Provides wellness insights and educational information about your genetic profile, blood biomarkers, and health metrics
- Helps you understand and explore your personal health data
- Offers informational content to support general well-being and lifestyle awareness
- Is intended for individuals who are generally healthy and interested in wellness optimization
The Service is not intended to:
- Diagnose any disease or medical condition
- Cure, mitigate, or treat any disease or medical condition
- Prevent any disease or medical condition
- Replace clinical laboratory testing, medical imaging, or physician evaluation
- Serve as a basis for medical treatment decisions
2. Genetic Analysis Limitations
Your Health Book contains analysis of genetic variants based on published scientific research. You should understand the following limitations:
- Incomplete coverage. Consumer genetic tests (23andMe, AncestryDNA) genotype a subset of the human genome. Many health-relevant genetic variants are not captured by these tests.
- Evolving science. The understanding of gene-health associations is actively evolving. Current research findings may be revised, contradicted, or refined as new studies are published.
- Population-specific findings. Many genetic association studies have been conducted primarily in populations of European descent. Findings may not be equally applicable across all ethnic backgrounds.
- Polygenic complexity. Most health traits are influenced by hundreds or thousands of genetic variants, environmental factors, and gene-environment interactions. Single-variant analysis provides limited insight into complex traits.
- Penetrance variability. Having a genetic variant associated with a health trait does not mean you will develop that trait. Penetrance (the proportion of people with a variant who show the trait) varies widely.
- No pharmacogenomic dosing recommendations. SoDNAscan does not provide medication dosing guidance based on genetic data. Pharmacogenomic decisions should be made exclusively by a prescribing physician with access to your full medical context.
3. Blood Work Analysis Limitations
If you upload blood work results, your Health Book includes analysis of your biomarker values. You should understand:
- Informational only. Blood work analysis is educational and should not replace interpretation by your ordering physician or a qualified healthcare professional.
- Reference ranges vary. Normal reference ranges differ between laboratories, testing methodologies, and patient populations. SoDNAscan's analysis may not account for your specific lab's reference ranges.
- Single-point-in-time snapshot. A single set of lab results reflects your biomarkers at one moment. Trends over time are more clinically meaningful than individual measurements.
- Context-dependent interpretation. Biomarker values must be interpreted in the context of your full medical history, current medications, recent activity, hydration status, and other factors that SoDNAscan may not have.
- Do not adjust medications or treatments based on SoDNAscan's blood work analysis. Always consult your prescribing healthcare provider.
4. Wearable Data Limitations
If you upload wearable device data, your Health Book includes analysis of your health metrics. You should understand:
- Device accuracy limitations. Consumer wearable devices use optical sensors, accelerometers, and algorithms that have inherent accuracy limitations. Readings may differ from clinical-grade measurements.
- Measurement variability. Wearable measurements are affected by device fit, skin type, ambient conditions, motion artifacts, and firmware versions.
- Not clinical grade. Consumer wearables are not FDA-cleared medical devices (with limited exceptions). Their measurements should not be used for clinical decision-making.
- Aggregation effects. SoDNAscan aggregates wearable data over time periods. This smoothing may obscure clinically significant short-term variations.
5. AI-Generated Content Limitations
Your Health Book is generated by artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude). You should understand:
- AI can produce inaccurate information. Large language models may generate plausible-sounding but factually incorrect statements. No AI output should be accepted without critical evaluation.
- AI outputs are not peer-reviewed. The content in your Health Book has not been reviewed by medical professionals, genetic counselors, or scientific editors before delivery.
- Confidence levels are not clinical certainty. When the AI expresses confidence in an association or finding, this reflects pattern strength in available data, not clinical diagnostic certainty.
- AI cannot fully account for interactions. Gene-gene interactions, gene-environment interactions, epigenetic modifications, and microbiome effects are not comprehensively modeled.
- AI reflects its training data. The AI's knowledge has a training cutoff date and may not reflect the most recent scientific publications or clinical guidelines.
- AI-generated content has not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or any equivalent regulatory body.
6. Family Implications
Genetic data reveals information about your biological relatives who have not consented to testing or analysis. Your Health Book may contain information about inherited traits, carrier status, and familial predispositions that implicate your parents, siblings, children, and extended family.
Consider the potential impact on family members before sharing your Health Book results or genetic insights with others.
7. When to Seek Professional Help
Contact a healthcare provider immediately if:
- You are experiencing symptoms of a medical condition
- You have concerns about a health condition
- You are considering changes to medications, supplements, or treatments
- You want clinical interpretation of genetic findings
- You want to understand the medical implications of any information in your Health Book
Consider consulting a genetic counselor if:
- You have questions about the significance of specific genetic variants
- You want to understand implications for family planning
- You want to explore clinical genetic testing based on consumer test results
- You have concerns about how genetic information may affect insurance coverage
8. Regulatory Status
SoDNAscan is a general wellness product. It satisfies the following regulatory criteria:
- FDA: The Service is intended for general wellness use only and presents low risk to user safety, consistent with FDA guidance on general wellness products. The Service has not been evaluated or approved by the FDA.
- EU MDR: The Service provides lifestyle and well-being information. It does not meet the definition of Medical Device Software (MDSW) under the EU Medical Devices Regulation, as its intended purpose is wellness education, not clinical use.
This classification depends on the Service being used for its intended wellness purpose. Using SoDNAscan outputs for clinical decision-making is outside the intended use and is done entirely at your own risk.
9. Limitation of Liability
SoDNAscan, its operator, and its service providers are not liable for any health outcomes, medical decisions, or actions taken or not taken based on information provided by the Service. See our Terms of Service, Section 16, for full limitation of liability terms.
10. Acknowledgment
By using SoDNAscan, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this disclaimer, that you understand the limitations described herein, and that you will consult qualified healthcare professionals before making any health decisions based on information provided by the Service.
